Notes from The Teacher

Library on Thursdays
Students may check out library books for a 2 week period.  They can bring books back before the 2 week period for a new one.

Friday Study Buddies with Mrs Gallagher's 3rd Grade Class
Not only do the 3rd graders read to your children, but your children also read to the 3rd graders!  The kids practice reading a book and then read that book to their older Study Buddy.  Fun for everyone, Study Buddies creates lasting relationships and helps build solid reading skills.

Big Ideas for Learning

Literacy - Continuing work on beginning sounds of words, alphabet letter (upper and lower case) recognition and their sounds, tapping out words, increasing the number of sight words (popcorn words,) and rhyming words. Students are increasing knowledge of using the printed text for reading. Children are adding details to pictures, adding printed labels to their drawings, and beginning to write simple sentences using sight words.

Math Continuing work on counting, making sets, increasing number sense, and sorting by attributes.  Ordering numbers, comparing size and shape, and measuring are concepts which we will work with this month.

Science & Social Studies – Continuing to work on being a good citizen, matter and properties, mass, volume, and weight.
